The main characters are 3 teams of Meisters and Weapons: Maka Albarn and her scythe Soul Eater Evans, Black☆Star and her weapon Tsubaki Nakatsukasa and Death the Kid and her two pistols Patti Thompson and Liz Thompson. All weapons are capable of changing from human to weapon form and can change part of their body into a weapon to fight alone. Most of the weapons have the same goal: to become the next "Death Scythe" so they can be used by Shinigami-sama. This will only happen after the weapons have absorbed ninety-nine souls turned into demon eggs and the soul of a witch.
